Morris Property ‘Highly Commended’ at LABC Building Excellence Awards
Morris Property have been ‘Highly Commended’ for the ‘Best Public or Community Building’ as part of the LABC Building Excellence Awards in collaboration with BCHN Architects, Thomas Telford Multi-Academy Trust, Ridge & Partners LLP, Synergy and Redhill Primary Academy. Although we narrowly missed the top spot, our team is delighted to have been recognised for their efforts in building this state-of-the-art new build nursery in Telford. Our congratulations go to the worthy regional winners who will go to the Grand Finals in January.
The nursery at Redhill Primary Academy was designed as a distinctive new build and safe green play space within the existing school site in Telford, with a focus on complimenting indoor space with the outdoor landscape. The development includes indoor and outdoor teaching space, a storeroom, toilet, cloakroom, reception, meeting room, staff room and plant room.
The building was designed by BCHN Architects in a contemporary style with a series of architectural links to the main school building and nearby streets. It is single storey with an external skin of buff brick above a grey brick plinth line. A glazed canopy links the nursery rooms to provide an external play and teaching space that can be used all year round. An impressive glass lantern sits upon a pyramid roof, which provides natural ventilation and light into the nursery space below. Standing seams across the roof reference the roof of the existing curved extension of the main primary school building.
