From fireworks, flowers and fundraising to star performers, sculpture and engaging community activity, events to mark our 150th anniversary have been thoroughly enjoyed.

Insights into our past were captured in a creative video, illustrated book and a unique public exhibition at Shrewsbury’s Museum and Art Gallery. Local sculptor Nik Burns was inspired by its history to produce a specially commissioned brass sphere sculpture for its Shrewsbury headquarters.

Staff were celebrated for their role in our story at an awards evening which recognised 150 Star Performers nominated by colleagues.

Employees throughout the business joined in anniversary celebrations at the Shrewsbury Flower Show, enjoying hospitality at the Morris Marquee and arena entertainment, live music and a fireworks finale. Broadcaster Mariella Frostrup hosted an evening there, interviewing Morris family members before an invited audience.

We raised £12,526 for chosen charity Alzheimer’s Society with a 150-mile sponsored cycle ride and other ‘ride and stride’ activities; funded vital equipment for the work of the Shrewsbury Street Pastors and supported numerous local charitable events.

As well as supporting those living with Alzheimer’s, we awarded our first Morris Scholarship at University Centre Shrewsbury to Paige Eades who has the cost of tuition fees for her three-year Business Studies degree covered, along with launching this year’s competition to find the Shropshire Young Thinker with UCS.

Chairman Robin Morris said: “It has been a truly memorable year so far which people have really engaged with.  I’m sure our founder – my great, great grandfather, James Kent Morris – would be amazed by how the venture he started has flourished and provided employment for so many people across the generations.”
