Shropshire Horticultural Society appoints 2016 President
Robin Morris, Chairman of fifth generation family business, Morris & Company, has been appointed as this year’s President of the Shropshire Horticultural Society and will attend Shrewsbury Flower Show. While Robin is the first member of his family to hold the title, the company has a long history associated with the Show.
Between the two world wars, the company expanded its interests in outdoor catering for public and private functions throughout Shropshire and the Welsh Borders. In the 1920s, the company exhibited at what was then known as the Shrewsbury Floral Fete, as Morris’s Refreshment and Tea Lounge and became the main caterer for a number of years afterwards. Since those times, the company has diversified and now has three key trading operations across Care, Property and Site Machinery. In recent years, Morris has taken stands at the Show for its Care and Property Divisions showcasing the high quality of it services and products to the thousands who flock to the Show each year.
Robin Morris said: ‘As a fifth generation family member, I am delighted to be representing the Flower Show, which has been part of our town’s heritage for over 125 years.
“It is an honour to take-up the mantle as Shropshire Horticultural Society President and it feels a great fit with the heritage behind the Show and our own long established connection with the town. I hope we will be welcoming a record number of visitors to the Show and town over the Flower Show weekend to enjoy the much loved perennial attractions and some exciting new additions to this year’s line-up.”
The 2016 Flower Show promises a rich variety of entertainment, attractions, floral competitions and food and drink designed to appeal to ages and tastes with headline acts including modern chef and TV personality, Gizzi Erskine.
This year’s Shrewsbury Flower Show will take place on the 12th and 13th August – for more information and tickets visit www.shrewsburyflowershow.org.uk or call 01743 234050.
